How can we help?

No one can know what someone is going through in their situation in life. BUT they can understand that hard times seem unbearable at times.

Jordan speaks of the Now and Not Yet. These families know this too well. We don't know why the Lord allows this to happen to some families and to others, they have abundance, but that is exactly why He put these verses in the bible. The Lord knew it was going to happen and He already came up with a fix for it. The only problem is, we all have free will. Are we going to choose God. Believing that God's son Yeshua died on the cross for our sins and love Him ? Or are we going to turn from Him? The same questions stands with the other principles He has taught in the bible. We have a choice. Are we going to be a part of His plan or are we going to push against it? No one knows why things have to be the way they are. Ask any single mom in our congregation. But we can all say yes to our part of the story that God calls us to.

Understanding that hard is hard, helps. Most the time the circumstance cannot be helped. There are many judgments around single parents or single moms. Most of the time those judgments are wrong.

Story time:

When I was eleven, I was driving with my mother in the car to get groceries. As we were leaving the parking lot in our car, I looked over and saw a woman sitting on the corner of the sidewalk and she held a sign that said, "God bless you. Anything helps." I asked my mom if she was going to give that woman some money or some of the food we just bought. She said, "No, Hunny, she will probably go and buy alcohol or drugs with it."

That sat in my mind for many years, but it didn't sit well.

I could never remember a verse that said to give to the poor only if they use it how you want them to. Or, only give to the poor if they are going to buy good things with it. So I decided when I had any cash on me, I would give it to anyone who asked or if I knew they needed it. Then I got my first job. The Lord tested me to see if I was going to keep my word. I saw a homeless woman walking down the road and kept driving, but the Lord told me to go give her money. My excuse was that I didn't have any cash on me. He said, "go to your account and take out $100. I was sad because I had just made that money and I worked hard for it. But I knew God was always good and he would make it good if I obeyed first, but second I gave with a happy and giving heart.

So excitedly, I turned my car around. I headed to the bank. I knew she wouldn't get very far because she was on foot and there wasn't a lot of places for her to go. I drove around a bit looking for her, but I knew if God told me to go and give her this money, I would be able to find her. Sure enough, I found her. I walked up next to her and let her know, "God told me to give you this money." She was so blessed but I was blessed even more. I didn't realize the desire He had put in my heart. To give to those who need, no matter what they plan to do with it. It is no longer in my hands but in the hands of the Lord. I don't know what came of that woman, BUT I like to think the Lord used it to speak to her about his love for her and that she has never been forgotten. I will never know. The things I do know is that, God asked me to do something and I did and I was so blessed for doing it. I think about that first lady often and I pray for her. She is the first of many people I have given to or the Lord has spoken specifically to me about.

It's not about what we think they should or shouldn't do. It's not about if we think they are right or wrong. It's not about if we are going to change them. It's about what God said to do.

Concerns and Common Questions

Is the full amount of my money going to be given to the family who needs it?

Yes, the money will go to the family in need and the services/gift they need.

Can the family use the money for whatever they want?

If there is a specific service that was needed then the money will go to that service provider to pay for the bill for the family. If it is a gift, then the family will be able to use it for whatever they choose.

How do you have this list of needs?

We have a church member who is in connection with these families of the church and in constant conversation with them to find out their needs.
